I can tell I'm going to have a love-hate relationship with Library Thing. Part of me bristles at its claim that it "helps you create a library-quality catalog of your books" -- their definition of "library-quality data" doesn't come close to what professional catalogers do. And I couldn't search Library of Congress! An attempt to search LC got this disclaimer: "We are aware the Library of Congress is having problems. They are kind enough to let us use their service; we don't run their servers. " And they have 692 other "quality sources"
But I did finally find where to get the MARC record to display, and I have to admit that most people wouldn't find it helpful, except insofar as the search engine probably looks at the MARC data as well as any other non-MARC tags and such.
Well, I will certainly play more with this. One thing that I really liked was to see other people's glowing comments about the books that are my favorites. And I will be curious to see what suggestions pop up based on what I've already got in my library.
