I'm amazed at all the resources (websites) under the Book Clubs link from Hennepin County Library! To run with Kathleen's idea of having virtual book clubs -- people interested in starting one might be more confident in doing so by having these tools at their disposal.

I like all the finding and pickup options when you click on a title in, for example, the Oprah's Book Club list. And you can apply for a library card ONLINE! How cool is that? So a person who is completely unable leave their home can still access at least some library materials, like electronic resources. Although it seems Hennepin is only using Overdrive for downlodable audiobooks and video, not e-books. And I wasn't able to determine if there was any home delivery...

Then I looked at AADL -- under "My Account" they have a tab "Personal Card catalog" where patrons can collect card catalog images of records for books in the collection! Dog-eared, yellowed, typed -- with options to add your own notes and marginalia! SO FUN!! Even with the disclaimer "This service is somewhat experimental and is here as a novelty" I would love to play with this.
